Why do I bite my nails and what makes it so addictive?

It could be a bad habit, or it could be a manifestation of another disorder, such as anxiety or depression. It can also be a disorder on its own, and could be an impulse control problem like obsessive compulsive disorder.

Why do I bite my nails and what makes it so addictive?
I believe it is a chemical imbalance in the brain. I was a compulsive nail biter for years. I would wake up in the morning disgusted by the idea, but by the evening, the impulse to bite them would be strong.

I could tell it was something going on with my body chemistry. Since I have been taking anti-depressant meds I don't have the urge any more.

When it comes down to it, much of what we do is controlled by our body chemistry. Why do I bite my nails and what makes it so addictive?
It is a form of aggression, that you unwittingly take out on yourself.

I don't really know unless you are always nervous about somthing all of the time. Are you?
