My dog doesnt like his nails being clipped. How do I go about it ???

Try to desensitize him to the situation.

Twice a day, every day just 'fiddle' with each of his toenails. AND leave the cutter next to his food dish so he gets used to them being a part of his day.

First do this 'fiddling routine' when he is relaxed on your lap, then try to encourage him to lay down for it.

Once he is comfortable laying down and having each toenail played with introduce the cutters. (I'd also use the closed end of the cutters to gently scratch him too)

Just touch them on each toe nail as you 'fiddle' with them - don't cut until he is comfortable with this step.

Once he is comfortable at this stage I would only actually cut one nail a day - but still 'fiddle' with the others.

This takes ALOT of time and commitment but eventually he'll accept the process.

Another important aspect is to do all this AFTER some exercise so he's relaxed and settled - pent up energy won't help him lay still for you.

Good luck.My dog doesnt like his nails being clipped. How do I go about it ???
Take him to the groomer's. They are inexpensive and professional. We tried for months to clip our dogs' nails and gave up. For 6$ a dog we can have them done in 5 minutes! And the dogs don't have a fit b/c the groomers can handle them better. Yes, they are SPOILED.My dog doesnt like his nails being clipped. How do I go about it ???
you' ll need help to restrain him
you didn't say what kind of dog it was. is it small where you could take him onto your lap and hold him tight or is he a large dog? my lab hates it and will NOT sit still. i'd be scared to do it because she's so nervous and wiggly and plus her nails are black and i can't see the quick. i have to bring her in every two months and get it done. it only costs me $5.00 and it's well worth it to me.
Take him in to your vet or groomer and leave and let them do it....
Starring this question for reference....Outback had an excellent suggestion.
Take him to pets mart thats what I do.

Or get a grinder but sometimes they think thats worse!
I do my dogs when they are resting and I talk to them while Im doing it and tell them if they are good babies mommy will give them a cookie when we are done. They lay there and let me do it but believe me they dont like their nails cut but hey the cookie works and when we are done they go right to where their cookie jar is and sit and look at it. Give it a try I found out that was the only way I could get their nails cut. Good luck
try to handle your dog's paws a lot when you're petting him, when he's calm and happy. that way he'll get used to it. then give him a treat when he lets you handle his feet. he'll never like it, but he'll get used to it.
I think outback kelpies covered it all.

good luck eh
well how long have you you had the dog try to build a stronger bond.
Take him to a groomer.
Your vet will do it for you if nothing else works.
Outback had excellent suggestions. In addition, some dogs are less stressed by a Dremel tool. It is like a small sander.

Some of us just wimp out and have a groomer or the Vet do the job.
take him to a groomer they cost $5.00 in less than 5mins. safest way trust me
Try a groomer ... they only charge a small fee for clipping nails
